This area was (is) a forest haven with a lovely paved path at the base of a large bluff. The bluff itself is very well known, in fact a Famous Calgary Lookout Spot, and it has another, actually-nearby well-known path up it-- a steep-ish path, afeared by cyclists, infested by runners as exercise grounds, used by high school coaches at the nearby Crescent Heights High School to forge strong football teens, well, anyways...-- because of the pecularities around how this particular pathway connects, and the fact it doesn't go up the bluff, but just sort of meanders along it's base, up then down, well... this spot was a bit of a Top Secret Area.

I used to love coming here.

Sunnyside locals (I am not) knew it but even well-localed near-locals often were surprised it existed when I led them here.

Once there were a hundred goats (the city has a goat herder who is used to maintain vegetation in a cost effective way, or else it's amusing, anyways... it was lovely.)

Some years ago (three?) the slope destabilized, and it was closed. It's a major loss, to tell you the truth. Perhaps on the upside, it's now not only a Top Secret Area: it's also a Forbidden Zone.

I risked life and limb, but not by much, to get these photographs.

Here's another mystery. Camera details, but I think these pictures were shot with the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8, a modern autofocus lens, not my usual SMC Pentax 28mm f/2.8, a vintage manual lens. They sure look sharp to me. But what I can't figure out is why the other pictures that I took on this same day look like they were shot on the 28mm. I definitely did not change lenses mid-day.
