I didn't expect this event, and I am still not really sure what it was. I could look it up, but I think it was a memorial parade for police who were killed while on duty.

What struck me is that what should have been a sombre event was marred by so many people taking pictures with their phones. The parade itself was happening near the legislature building, but that is also a tourist center so this was maybe inevitable, in a sense.

I started in the same mindset myself-- a visitor eager for interesting pictures-- but soon felt a bit off about that.

However, I did still decide to try and capture how people were engaging with this event. For some it was not to observe but rather to try and create "content" from it. Do I (foolishly) feel that put me above the fray? Maybe.
