Legacy Forest is a short-ish adventure RPG which puts you in the shoes of Geoff, a stable-hand, who has to solve the mystery of a lakeside estate.

You might need this to get through the game. I was not such a great game designer back in 2003:

History

This game was originally going to be an episodic-release series, but it didn't quite make it past the first episode. Hence a lot of unused dialog options (e.g., for Armour, Magic, etc.) There are items that work and you can beat this episode. I even created a walkthrough.

Legacy Forest was the second "big" game that I finished (first being Cosimo). It was hell to complete, which is why there isn't a sequel. The engine was just too fiddly, which meant that creating any kind of meaningful amount of gameplay took a mountain of time and debug effort. Not fun.

I learned a lot though. After I made Legacy Forest I went ahead and made Venture the Void. Epic and torturous in it's own sense but I didn't (for the most part) repeat the mistakes of LF. Venture the Void wasn't exactly fun to finish but it was, I feel, a success.

Mistakes with Venture the Void had more to do with how I structured the gameplay, user interface, and learning curve; not so much in terms of the design problems I faced in Legacy Forest.

Enough!
