This walkthrough is neccesary because of some gameplay and
story-related weaknesses in the game which make some puzzles or
situations unreasonably hard. It shouldn't be by any means required for
everything, but nonetheless since the time required to fix the story
properly is out-of-the-question for me, it seems a reasonable
compromise. I'll try not to give away too many surprises, and I won't
spell everything out 100%, rather I'll just give hints on how to
progress at various points in the game.
Prelude
Gaze in wonder at the emotive,
thought-provoking introductory story sequence. When the time comes,
visit the shed (to the right of Geoffs house).
Day 1
You have some chores to do! Go
out and talk to your uncle, who is standing outside the house.
The brush you need is in the shed
(stable). Go up to the chest (bottom right corner; camoflauged with the
floor) and hit ENTER.
To use the brush you must first
equip it. Press ESC to open the menu. Go down to Inventory and hit
ENTER. Next, highlight Grooming Brush and hit ENTER again. An "E" means
the item is equipped. A "*" means it is equipped for someone else in
your party. "-" means it is currently not equipped. Once you have an "E"
beside it, hit ESC until you are playing again. Now, you can use the
ringmenu. Hit the left SHIFT to bring up the ring menu, and move the
arrows left and right to hilight your selection. Use the UP arrow to
access sub-menus or make a selection (continue to hold shift). Stand
near Star (the horse) and using the ring menu, select the Grooming
Brush. As long as you hold SHIFT, a hand will appear over Star. You
could use the arrow keys to hilight something else to use the grooming
brush on, if there was anything nearby. Release SHIFT to use the item.
You must also brush three sheep.
Two are easy to find, wandering nearby Inges house (which should be
marked on your map; hit ESC to view this, places you need to visit will
flash). The third is southeast of Inges house (on another map). You can
use the Sheep-dar if you want to help locate them; the Sheep-dar is
glinting in the grass to the northeast of Inges.
Aren't chores fun? I can't
believe I made a game where you just basically do chores for the first
hour or so...
Once you brush the sheep, return
to Dunhaben. He'll tell you to fetch the boathook. Go southwest until
you come to the boathouse, the hook is inside. Bring it to Dunhaben.
The wood is located to the west,
along a ridge. You'll know it when you see it. You need 6 pieces of wood.
Wood chopping minigame! Hit ENTER
and ESC alternately. Don't go too fast, as you're penalized for hitting
two of the same key in a row.
Go to the northeast corner of the
estate, and get some water from Gerard.
Go to the southwest corner of the
estate, and deliver the water to Luci.
Return the meat the Luci gives
you to Dunhaben (your uncle).
Day 2
Talk to Dunhaben.
Go to the dock, then walk a bit
northwest. Follow the boathook into the cave. Collect the boathook.
Return the boathook to Dunhaben
and collect the Axe. Take the Axe to Luci (far west).
Day 3
When you visit your house,
you may hear noises. Hide behind the house.
Don't try to kill stuff
until you collect Adrienne, and have an Axe. Go north to the main estate
complex; she is in one of two buildings guarded by a pod at the top of
the screen. Sneak past the pod (or go around the back way) and enter
the right building. Speak with Adrienne.
To switch party members, hit TAB.
It works on the menus, too.
Travel to the cave north of
Geoff's house, and collect the stuff Adrienne wants. When you hear the
Drake scream, don't exit the way you came in. Instead exit the north
side, and find a ledge to the left. Press ENTER to jump down.
Visit the storehouse (where Luci
was) to find the Axe. It's guarded! There is a cave just northeast of
the store which holds the Axe. When you exit the cave, fight the Drake.
You can put Geoff on Attack command and run Adrienne around, or you can
just switch control; Adrienne can't hurt the Drake, though, so I
normally use her as bait.
Now, venture around to all the
houses on the estate collecting things. You can/should only hit the pod
things when they are open.
If you travel northwest through a
small passageway, you may find yourself subject to an ambush. You cannot
win this fight no matter how well-equipped you are.
You will meet Gerards ghost who
gives you mutagen. There are a number of doses which must be used on
slimes throughout the estate.
Luci -- at the storehouse. Dunhaben -- your uncle, at your
house. Inge -- at her house. Marko -- near the tree at the
bottom left hand side of the main estate screen. Patricia -- forget her real name,
she is oddball chara who only appears on Day 3. Visit the building to
the left of where you found Adrienne, and go through the left door to
enter a small yard where her slime is.
Once you have used up all the
doses on the various estate employees, return to Gerard. He will tell
you of a secret passage! Go northwest until you find a crevasse (on the
same map as Gerard is on); it should be marked on your map. Stand at the
top of the crevasse and hit ENTER to jump in!
Level 1
Level 1 is fairly basic, just
keep trying to use the ancient key on various keystones to unlock doors.
Where doors open may not be always obvious, however. There are a few
small catches:
At one point you will encounter a
large rock. Push against it to the right; do not push it at an angle.
You have to keep pushing for 3 seconds or more (it will seem like it's
not working) before it will finally drop in.
At another point, you may find
that although you destroyed all enemies, you are still in "battle" mode.
This normally happens on the last passageway of Level 1. Just walk up
and down the passageway, switching between characters every so often,
until you return to battle mode. This is a known bug.
There is a secret room, which
contains a Metal Canister capable of holding more water than the
X-Bottle. It's not easy to find, or rather, it's not easy to figure out
how to get into it. If you go up, and right, you'll find you can circle
back to the main screen (you go through a room with some slimes and a
water well where you can fill the X-Bottle.) Use the keystone to lock
the northern door, this unlocks a secret passage elsewhere. Return via
the eastern "loop", and head north one map and then east until you come
to a dead end. Inside the rock formation is a teleport pad, which you
can access from the right-hand side. Obscure, eh?
The final boss doesn't seem to be
giving people any real trouble, so I'll let you to figure it out!
When you at last make it to the
final chamber, press ENTER on the small plateau to climb out.
Chapter 2?
Legacy Forest was a really really
big project in terms of the work involved; this was due to some
incredibly bad design. Although the adventure seems short and
incomplete, there won't be a Chapter 2. But I hope you enjoyed it, I
think I learned a lot making it.
